My recent home upgrade in Reading

I needed a bespoke home bar after hosting a party where we ran out space. I chose to look near Reading Station.

I stumbled upon the site while browsing and emailed photos. Central Bedroom and Kitchens replied with a quote that seemed right for the work.

The process of organising this project was actually quite detailed. I dedicated many days reflecting on the layout of the room before even picking up the phone. My lounge area has constantly felt a bit unfinished, and having a proper area for drinks seemed like the perfect solution to that issue. I remember standing in my hallway staring at a messy countertop filled with bottles and realising that everything had to change. The first conversation with the team was extremely simple, which gave me assurance. We talked different aesthetics, from modern sleek designs to more traditional and wooden finishes. I was really impressed by how much information they requested about the measurements and the existing interior of my home. It felt like they genuinely desired the final product to match seamlessly with the rest of the property. I provided multiple views in the images I sent, making sure each corner was clear. They explained that the bespoke type of the furniture signified that accuracy was entirely paramount to prevent any issues throughout the installation. We went forth and back on potential materials, searching at swatches of quartz and different types of timber patterns. It is amazing how much thought goes into selecting the right handles, like pulls and copyrights, which could totally alter the vibe of the whole construction. I needed a place where I might easily mix drinks for friends without having to constantly run back to the kitchen for lemons or tools. The ease of having all items in a single place was the main driver for this investment. We settled the design following a short consultation where all my questions about plumbing and lighting points were answered. I appreciated that they didn't rush the planning stage, spending the time to ensure that the depth of the racks was sufficient for my largest glassware. It seemed like a joint effort instead than a simple sale, which is hard to locate nowadays.

The fitting date came sooner than anticipated, and the technician was punctual and prepared. He started by placing down safety covers to make sure my carpet stayed clean. Watching the components being unloaded was interesting, as the standard of the materials was immediately evident. He carefully verified the alignment of the walls before securing the base structure of the bar. I observed as the skeleton slowly took shape, changing a plain alcove into a practical piece. The degree of skill involved in fitting the boards to the uneven surfaces of my older house was impressive. He mentioned why each piece fitted together to provide maximum strength. We wasted a little duration deciding on the final position for the integrated cooler, making sure it was accessible to reach but hidden away from main sight. The fitting of the counter was the highly rewarding part of the whole process. Seeing the polished top finally sitting on the cabinets made the vision feel real. He next installed the mirrored backsplash, which immediately caused the space to feel double the breadth. The LEDs were connected next, and testing them for the first moment was a thrill. The warm glow underneath the shelves showcased the glassware perfectly. I was able to see precisely how handy this might be for evening events. The worker was highly careful, taking the effort to wipe down every area and clear any dust created during the cutting. He also showed me the way to adjust the shelves if I later wanted to house bigger items. The focus to precision was truly exceptional, right down to the silicone beads around the joins. It was clear that he had great pride in his craft, which is always reassuring to witness. We conducted a final inspection of the completed work to make all was to standard. I observed that a single knob was a bit loose, and he fixed it straight away with a fast twist of a tool. This thoroughness was just what I was hoping for when I arranged the service.

The completed bar looks completely stunning and has become the main point of my downstairs. It offers a classy feel that had been formerly lacking from my reception space. The capacity is immense, allowing me to organise all my liquors, sodas, and fancy glassware in one cohesive place. No more do I need to search through cluttered kitchen shelves to locate a corkscrew or a certain kind of tumbler. Everything has its rightful home, which makes hosting much more easier and relaxing. I enjoy the way the materials reflect the sunlight in the afternoons, creating a inviting ambience. My friends have already praised the design multiple occasions, with some actually asking for the contact of the company who made it. It truly seems like a custom extra tailored exactly for my lifestyle. The elevation of the countertop is perfect for leaning by with a drink, and the built-in lighting units provide just the right amount of illumination without being too bright. Even when not in use, it serves as a lovely item of furniture that lifts the whole look of the property. I used some effort placing my bottles on the shelves to make a pleasing arrangement. The mirrored back really assist in showcasing the bottles and giving dimension to the tight alcove. It has encouraged me to experiment creating different cocktails that I previously thought were too complicated to bother in a normal setting. Having the tap nearby might have been nice, but the space limits resulted in we decided against it to preserve cabinet room. This was a deliberate choice we made at the design stage, and I do not rue it. The extra cupboard space for straws and accessories is far more valuable to me in the run term.

There were a couple of minor drawbacks that are worth noting for a balanced perspective. The wait time for the custom doors was a bit slower than I initially hoped. It lasted about eight weeks from the first payment to the final fitting appointment. While this is expected for high-quality work, it meant a some of waiting on my part. I had wanted to have it finished for a certain event, but we missed that date by a few days. However, the updates from the office regarding the progress was regular, so I was not kept in the unknowing. I rather hold a little longer for a result that is built to last than have a rushed work that breaks after a couple months. The start cost quote was also slightly lower than the final invoice, mainly because I chose to upgrade the handles and include extra internal lights midway during the process. These changes were completely my choice, and the company was extremely clear about the extra fees required. Another minor issue was the amount of boxes left after the install. Although the worker cleaned up the build site well, there was a significant amount of waste to get rid of in my bins. It was not a huge deal, but something to keep in mind if you possess little bin space. Despite these minor points, the overall experience was vastly good. The quality of the fit is much superior to anything I could have bought off-the-shelf. It feels solid and well-constructed, and I am sure it will withstand decades of parties. I feel the value it has added to my home well outweighs the upfront cost. It has changed the way I enjoy my living area, making it much more inviting. I no longer feel cluttered when friends come over.

Reflecting back on the entire experience, I am really happy I went forward with it. The first idea originated from a visit to a friend's house in London, where they had a similar bar. I saw then how much it improved the flow of the party. When I got back to Reading, I started researching local firms and found that going with a bespoke outfit was the best route to get the precise look I wanted. The ability to pick every element, from the shade of the paint to the position of the plug outlets, ensured the final product was exactly as I envisioned. I even got a small secret compartment included for storing expensive tools like silver spoons. This kind of personalisation is what renders the experience special. It didn't feel like a mass-produced piece being forced into a space where it didn't belong. Instead, it looks like it has forever been a part of the house. If you are considering a similar domestic upgrade, my tip would be to be calm and spend the effort on the planning part. It is much better to change a sketch than it is to fix a unit once it is built. The knowledge offered during the start was invaluable in stopping me from doing common mistakes, such as putting the cooler too close to a heat source. These little bits of advice are what you buy for when you hire skilled professionals. I am now planning at other parts of my home to see where else I could install fitted storage. The success of this bar project has given me the confidence to tackle a larger task in the kitchen next season. It is a great upgrade to my life, and I view ahead to numerous years of using it with relatives and friends. Finding the right mix between looks and function was the goal, and I feel we reached it completely. The process from a cluttered corner to a sleek hosting point was truly worth the time and investment required. I now have a home that I am truly proud to show with to others. Reading has some great places to visit for a cocktail, but honestly, I now favour staying at my place and using my own personal setup. It offers the same atmosphere without the crowds or the travel. That alone was worth the whole undertaking. I am so happy with how the ambience works in the night, providing a relaxing environment to relax after a long day at the office. It bespoke home bar is the little treats like this that render house living so rewarding and fulfilling. I really value the workmanship that went into the finished product. The way the doors close with a soft thud speaks volumes about the construction quality. No aspect was overlooked, and the final look is exactly what I needed it would be when I first started this adventure. It is a credit to the talent of the fitters and the standard of the materials utilised. I am a very happy client.
